A safe, non-judgmental environment for students to talk about school challenges & collaborate on an action plan. Starts with a parent intake, record review, student Skype/Meeting, and ends with a written plan and student wrap-up.

Last week I had an interesting experience in a Study Re-Boot session. I Skyped with a student who is struggling in school despite having support from his parents and the school’s “Learning Center.” He is a tenth grader getting C’s and D’s, yet was able to learn all the lines as the lead in the school play. Academically he is feeling frustrated and defeated.
Although he has an Educational Evaluation and is receiving support in class, it has not been enough. As he answered questions I realized he didn’t understand his “Learning Profile.”
Do you know that 1 in 5 people have a learning difference? Many go undiagnosed while others are given labels such as dyslexia, dyscalculia and ADHD. Either way, most young people have a limited understanding of how their life is impacted by their learning issues.
In our 1-on-1 Study Re-Boot session, the student and I talked about his learning profile and then we were able to figure out the obstacles he was experiencing. The objective was to brainstorm strategies to address his hurdles and frustrations and to make sure he understood his strengths, weaknesses and average abilities. It was a complete collaboration!
Study Re-Boot is a departure from traditional approaches. Rather than an adult directing the student, the student plays a critical role in developing an actionable plan and language that he feels comfortable using to describe his learning profile. The student can bring the plan to his teacher(s) or I can act as an educational liaison.
Study Re-Boot provides a safe, non-judgmental environment for students to get objective feedback in a Skype/meeting. My written summary reflects our collaboration, serving as a blueprint for the student, his parents and his teachers.
